Outlook2003: where is the email account info stored for the profi

Hello I need to move my email. I have many email accounts configured (about
10 pop3) in my profile.
I created a new windows xp profile
copied over the .pst file from the previous account, but looks like I will
have to recreate all the email (pop3 ) account information again .. is there
a way i can copy it over ??

Will appreciate a quick reply ..

It's stored in the Windows registry. The Save My Settings Wizard that comes
with Office is a good tool for transfering mail profile settings and other
Office settings from one Windows profile to another.

Thankyou very much .. you saved me a Big Headache!! and I really appreciate
the promptness
for the benefit of those who still might be wondering how to do it -

I copied over the pst file to the new account
I ran the save my settings wizard as per Sue's reccomendation
---(a) it saved the settings in a file
I then logged into the new account
ran the save my settings wizard and chose restore
--- selected the file i had saved in (a) above
and started outlook, and I have all my settings including all the email
accounts ..
as i had orginally set them up .. with pop3 settings .

Hi, I thought i had it all working .. but looks like my contacts are there i
can see them but somehow the autocomplete does not work when i type in the
email addresses (which alread exist in my contacts) in the To: line ..
neither do the address book icon show me anything -- as if there is not
contact / address book ..
however i can click on the contacts tab on the left bottom and I see they
are all there

any hints ?

Autocomplete entries are stored in the .nk2 file with the same name as the mail profile. Did that file copy over?

If you are not seeing items in the Outlook Address Book, make sure that address book is in the mail profile and also right-click the Contacts folder and check the Outloolk Address Book box on the folder's Properties dialog.

I cannot find the file I am supposed to save. I tried the wizard with all the
Outlook items i could find, but still I see my IMAP accounts in Outlook. Does
this not work with IMAP?

What file are you referring to, Sondre?

The purpose of the wizard is to assist you in copying settings and data from one machine to another. Your post suggests that you have some other task in mind -- like removing IMAP accounts. The wizard doesn't do that. You have to remove IMAP accounts yourself through the Tools | E-mail Accounts dialog.

Could I use the Import and Exporting wizard? Select Export to a file and
select PST. and it save it to a file. You can save the PST. to a folder where
you can put on a Disk, CD or exteranl drive? But my question will it put your
e-mail account in the PST?

I have a computer that I will be using Outlook 2003 but it will be for a
month or 2 month but it far away.

No, it won't. You need to use the Save My Settings wizard as Sue mentioned
to backup those settings to an OPS file. Then you can move that file, in
addition to your other data files, to the new machine.

What can I do if all I have is an external harddrive backup to work with? My
original laptop motherboard crashed and now I'm trying to rebuild on a new
computer. Is there any way I can use the Save My Settings Wizard without
having a source physical computer? Can I somehow use the same computer for
both the source (accessing my external harddrive backup) and the new location?

No, because the wizard reads the user's current Windows registry to gather the mail profile settings. Unless you have a registry backup that you want to risk your new machine by trying to restore it, those settings are no longer available.

Hi Sam,

Do you know how to add the autocomplete information from an old machine
running Outlook Expres to a new machine running Outlook 2003? I did all the
export guides, installed 2003 on the old machine and exported Personal
Fodlers and imported it on the new machine. The old machines Outlook 2003
folders does not contain an nk2 with autocomplete information thou.

Is ther another way to go about this or is the autocomplete infor forever
lost in the switch to 2003 from Express?

I don't believe there is any way to do that because the two applications use
entirely different methods for the autocomplete. OE actually uses the
Windows Address Book for its autocomplete suggestions. Outlook uses a file
of the addresses you've already used, whether or not they show in your
Outlook Address Book. Since you'll transfer all the Outlook Express
contacts to Outlook, you can use Check Names or autoresolution to build up
the autocompletion data until it's more of what you use.
