Outlooked Cached Mode

My boss's computer uses offline mode and cached mode enabled but his .ost
file was getting rediculously large, it's over 20GB. He no longer had any
space available on his C:\ drive so i moved the file over to his E: drive
which has plenty of room... He is on Outlook 2007 and Exchange Server 2000

I did this following instructions online which basically told me to:

Turn off cached mode, turn off ofline mode, exit outlook, move the file, and
re-enable.

I did this and everything seemed to be working fine.... Then he noticed
that he wasn't receiving certain e-mails for a strange reason and i got an
error a few times about it using an "old .ost file" ...

Since the server is housed in the office and he is always connected to it, i
thought it would be best for him to just work online... when i switched it to
online mode today it basically brought back all the e-mails he deleted from
the inbox and put into folders, as well as lost some appointments from
basically when we moved the .ost file.... It also no longer allows him to
mark certain mail as junk...

What should I do? I don't know what the benefits/downfalls of having the
data online or offline... and if i wanted to revert back to offline mode what
is the best way to do this and how long will it take for it to migrate...

I still have the .ost file on the drive... any suggestions would be
appreciated.
