Overallocation In Resource Usage Sheet, but no red in dates!

I use resource leveling, but after making some changes in the tasks in my
project (MS Project 2003), I check the Resource Usage, and see that one of my
resources is marked red. So to fix this, I try to find out exactly when this
overallocation occurs. The Alt-F5 key tells me there are no overallocations.
I scan through all the dates and sure enough there are no dates marked as
red.

Is this a known problem? How can I fix this so my resource does not show as
overallocated? Thanks.

Thanks. Soome great information, but did not help with my problem. I'm
already doing minute-by-minute resource leveling, and now I have 3 people who
show up in the red on the Resource Usage View, but I cannot find the
allocation. It's almost like it's a "false" flag. The Alt-F5 should take me
right to the spot of the overallocation and I've had that work before, but
not now.

Hello Sandy,

I'm not an expert, but some thoughts.

When you did 'level resources' - what duration option did you choose?
'week by week'? If you chose 'week by week' for example, then leveling
will only ensure that the resource is not overallocated on a week
basis. This means that the resource will have <= 40 hours allocated
every week, but not necessarily 8 x 5. This means you may see that on
one day of the week, the resource may be allocated 20 hours, but
overall, for that week, the total hours would be <= 40.

However, the resource allocations would show red on the days when the
resource is allocated > 8 hours. When you searched for
overallocations, MPP probably tried to find weeks on which the
resource was allocated > 40 (which would be the case if MPP could not
do the leveling on some weeks due to various reasons). In your case,
may be there are no overallocations on a week basis and therefore you
did not find one. The resource though, will show up as red, because
there are few days where the allocation is > 8 hours.

In my experience, this situation is okay. Very rarely do projects tend
to execute exactly as scheduled on a day basis; a weeks' duration is
probably more realistic.

Thanks,
Prashanth
