Oversize paper needs to print on Inkjet

N

news.microsoft.com

I have a newspaper size page (12.5" X 22.75") and I want to print it on an
inkjet printer where it will break it into the necessary size sheets with
the registration marks, etc. I saw it was able to do this ones in a print
preview, but I changed something so it will print the full size to a pdf so
I can take it to Kinko. For a proof I want to print it on my inkjet and tape
the sheets together. What do I need to do. I've looked in the help but I
must not be entering the right keywords. I'm using Publisher 2003.

Thanks,
Mark

Try going to...File / Page Setup / Custom...
enter the size you require.

Let me explain a little more... I created a custom page Start > Setting >
Printers and Faxes then File > Server Prosperities and created a new form
(custom page) of the size 12.5" X 22.75". I then went in to Publisher and
created a new document. Then in Publisher went to File > Page Setup... >
Printer and Paper (tab) and set the paper size to my newly created customer
paper size... I called it "Newspaper". The printer is "Adobe PDF". On the
Layout tab the publication type is "Full page". When I print, I get a pdf
file that is of size 12.5" X 22.75" and it look fine. This is the document
I'll take to Kinko. But I need to print this on my home inkjet. When I
switch to this printer I lose the ability to select "Newspaper" as, I
assume, Publisher via the printer driver knows that max paper size of the
inkjet printer. I can't print a documnet that large so it no longer presents
me with my custom page "Newspaper". I recall when I first start this project
I printed to a pdf and it gave me 6 sheets of 8.5" X 11" of paper with
registration marks so I could tape them together. I changed something so I
could generate a pdf that I can take to the printer as a single sheet. This
is where I'm at now, but I don't know how to switch back.

Sounds like you have the .pub document
that is formatted 12.5" X 22.75"...

And it sounds like your Printer Preferences
are also set to 12.5" X 22.75"...

Try going back to...Start / Printers and Faxes
and change the default paper size back to
"Letter" 8.5"x11".

When you open your project in Publisher and
go to...File / Print...choose your inkjet printer...
now maybe you can print on multiple sheets.

File > Page Setup > Printer and Paper. Set your paper size to Letter or
A4, depending on your locality. Publisher will automatically tile the
publication onto separate pages.

Alternatively, you could print the full-size page to Adobe PDF and scale
it to fit the output page for a more convenient one-page proof.

I've only been using Publisher now for three days and after a good bit of
playing around I found how to do what I asked. For the sake of anyone else
wanting to know how to do it here's what I've learned.

The printer's page size and the document's layout size are two different
things. I'm sure many of you will think that sounds as if everyone should
know that but as I said I've only been using Publisher for three day and
understand the difference between those two facts was what made all the
difference. Here's what I did... remember I had the printer selected to
Adobe PDF so I could generate a pdf file to take to the printers (Kinkos).
Given it's not a real printer it doesn't have an issue with "printing" to a
page size of 12.5" X 22.75" therefore all was good. When I switch the
printer to my inkject, the printer driver knew my printer could only print
on letter or legal size paper and therefore wanted to adjust my page size to
8.5" X 11". If after switching to the inkjet I click OK my document
reformatted and got all messed up. What I needed to do after I selected my
inkjet is swith to the Layout tab and set the layout size. The page size for
my printer is still 8.5" X 11", but I now selected custom and set the layout
size back to 12.5" X 22.75". What was really cool is in the little privew
window on the Layout tab it showed me a red outline of my layout size across
six sheet of 8.5" X 11".

In short... go to File > Page Setup... on the "Printer and Paper" tab
change the printer from "Adobe PDF" to the printer you want to print to, in
my case Lexmark Z53. Then switch to the Layout tab and select the layout
size of you need your document to be. In my case I needed to select Custom
and enter the Width & Height (12.5" X 22.75"). That's it.
