OWA 2003 Sent mail not syncing with Entourage 2008

E

Mail I send through OWA 2003 appears in the Sent folder within OWA.
However the Sent mail folder does not sync with Entourage 2008's sent
folder when I access it (POP). I've seen various posts on this, but
not a consistent resolution. Can anyone help?

A common thread suggests:
By default, your Exchange account in Entourage is fully synchronized
with your Exchange server. That includes the Sent Items folder.
If this is not happening for you then right-click or Control-click
that
folder, select Folder Properties and click the Empty button to empty
the
cache. You can also select the account itself and empty the cache for
all of your folders.

However, when I am in Entourage I don't see a "Folder Properties" menu
when I right or control-click the Sent mail folder.

I suspect that the root of the issue is that your account is set to
access the server as a POP server instead of an Excahnge one.

That's all for an Exchange account where the data is actually
synchronized with the server instead of downloading e-mails in the
inbox, as with POP.

Any reason why you don't use the account as an Exchange account??

Hi, The main body of users in our company are on Exchange, but several
of us are setting up a new office out of state. Thus, since we are
not on the network, our few account were set up as POP until our
office space is solidified. I am the only Mac user, the others using
Office/Outlook 2007 do not have the syncing up problem with the Sent
mail that I am experiencing.

Also, I've observed that the sent mail syncing is both ways - mail I
sent through either Entourage or OWA is not syncing properly with each
other. So I have 2 disparate stores of sent mail, which is pretty
inconvenient.

That's not really an issue. You have two options in these situations:
- let the users connecto through the OWA server itself, or ask them to
VPN in and connect (which is what have to do because our OWA serer uses
scripts that make it incompatible with Entourage)

Well if anything, with POP you can't sync calendar and address book. The
way you organize your e-mails in folder and subfolders doesn't sync to
the server (or additional computers you might use to connect) either.
You are not able to use any of the advantage of Excahnge accounts.

That has never been the case for me. I have seen other issues, but
Entourage---Exchange---Another Mac using Entourage has been pretty
straightforward to me,

Corentin,

I am cross-posting a response I made to an earlier related string that
has not yet attracted the expert help you and others so commonly
provide. Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have (and all your
other helpful comments on this forum)

"I have the same problem. Items sent from Outlook or OWA appear
in Outlook and OWA but are not synched back to my Entourage Sent
folder.
Items created in E2008 are not synched (or at least not viewable) in
Outlook or OWA.

Mac PB G4 OS10.4.11
Version of Entourage? => E2008
Version of Exchange? => Unsure, think it is 2003
Did you upgrade your 2004 identity to 2008, or start fresh? =>
Upgraded 2004
What is the folder path to your Sent Items folder (right-click,
Folder
Properties)? Does it match your account ID or primary email address?
=> exchange/username/Sent%20items/
Have you tested your Exchange account in a new identity? => No
The "%20" in the path for the Sent folder is suspicious.
Hope there is an easy solution that does not take hours of work
(aren't these supposed to be "productivity tools? ;-)
Tom"

If you really feel like you need to repost, a repost as a new thread
usually gets more chances to be noticed that a cross-post within an
existing thread...

Is the account set as POP (as in this thread) or Exchange?? If it is
properly set as Excahnge, that's an issue. It's a known issue though if
the e-mails are sent from an iPhone.

Same thing. If they are sent through SMTP (with an account set as POP or
IMAP), I don't really expect them to make it to the Sent items folder of
the Exchange account.

Thanks for that tip- I am still learning the protocol here as I
largely lurk, not post (because Entourage has worked nearly flawlessly
for me for many years)

It is set up as an Exchange account (large enterprise level system
with thousands of users) and the problem occurs whether I am
connnecting to the front end (from outside the network) or back end
(from inside the network)

As above, I connect and synch via Exchange, not POP or IMAP.

When I right click on my sent folder and check its properties, the
path is shown as:
< exchange/username/Sent%20items/ >. The "%20" seems odd and does not
appear in the path names of any of my other folders, all of which
synch properly.

Then it is indeed unusual and I have no idea why you are seeing this.
I have issues with Exchange, but this isn't one of them,

The %20 is expected. It's the proper encoding for the space in the name,

You might consider flushing the cache from the contextual menu (on your
Exchange account. There might be something corrupted there,

Where do I locate this particular cache? There are cache folders in
the Library folder (Library>Cache>Metadata>Entourage>Main Identity,
etc). Or are you referring to something else.

Well some things are more obvious than othrs in Entourage,
Where do I locate this particular cache? There are cache folders in

You don't. The Exchange cache I am referring to is not in an external
file. It is the local store fo the Exchange data and it is part of the
main database.

I should have given you more details :-\
Right-click (Ctrl-clic) the root folder for your Exchange account and
chose "Folder properties".
You'll get a pane with an Empty cache button there.

Corentin,

Thank you again for your help. This fixed the synching problem
described above.

For any others who have a similar problem and find this thread in
searching for a solution on this forum- and are technologically
challenged like me: the "root folder for your Exchange account" is the
folder on your open Entourage application, in my case, the "Sent"
folder.

Using the Sent folder works in your case, but the one I meant is the
root folder for your Exchange account. The "bar" with the name of the
Exchange account.
Using this one forces a sync on all folders of the Exchange account
(instead of just Sent),
