Page number doesn't "center" in footer

I'm using Word 2000. In some of my documents, I use
lowercase roman, wdAlignPageNumberCenter. The number is
left justified. I've tried everything. In other
documents, it works fine.

Hi Richard,
I'm using Word 2000. In some of my documents, I use
lowercase roman, wdAlignPageNumberCenter. The number is
left justified. I've tried everything. In other
documents, it works fine.
The PageNumbersAdd method puts the page number in a frame
and positions this relative to the margins. Go into the
header/footer, click in a page number, then right-click the
slash-frame and choose "Format frame". Is the horizontal
positioning center to the margins?

Now check the margins. Are they the same? If not, or if you
also have a gutter defined, the page number won't appear to
be in the middle of the page. It will be centered to the
text as it runs between the margins.

Note: This is NOT the most reliable method for controlling
page numbering. Much better is to put a PAGE field directly
into the footer, positioned by a tab stop.
