password protected page

Hi all,

I am looking for an example on how to prevent a user to access restricted
pages on my website.

My question is if i have a password field how can i create a function to
validate the password

Can i put the data in a mdb files?

those are common task that must be documented somehere
can someone direct me to the good place to look?
