Password Protection on folder

Who Cares!

Help! I have tried to put password protection on a folder on a
website and it doesn't seem to work. Originally I had asked out IT
Manager to set up Apache for subwebs but for whatever reason he didn't
want to. We have a website that we want to add a PW protected
employee are on. I have followed the instructions to put password
protection on the folder with the files but it doesn't work. It seems
I can only password protect the entire site or nothing. Does anyone
know of any CLEAR directions? I have been to a number of sites with
no success.

Most recently I opened the site "live", clicked
tools>security>permissions and tried a number of the options. All I
can seem to do is secure the entire site.

I have 1 dozen or so employees I need to control. Help!

Have you thought of Password protecting by going to the web host
control panel?

If your IT manager will not allow subwebs, then ask him to apply unique
permissions to a folder. The alternative is to use server-side scripting
(ASP, PHP, Perl/CGI etc., whatever your server supports) to protect
individual pages (which may all be in the same folder)

I got the IT manager to enable subwebs and have the sub web up and
password protected. Now if I could find a way to clear out the
password when you exit the subweb I would be really happy...
