Pasting an image so it can be edited in Paint

I have some colleagues who are creating Word documents with bitmaps
pasted in, and when they or I double-click on them it replaces the
toolbar and menus with MS Paint and the image can be edited in place.
When I paste in a bitmap, it can't be edited in place, double-clicking
just brings up the Image Properties dialog.

They are using Word 2000, I'm using Word 11 SP3 (2003). How can I get
my version of Word to do the same as theirs?

Instead of pasting a bitmap into Word, you can use Edit, PasteSpecial

Choose the option for bitmap image Object (or some other Object,
instead of bitmap, drawing, picture, etc.)

Then you can double-click or right-click to edit it in place
