Pasting chart from Excel into Word

I have a problem when pasting a graph from Excel into
Word. I go to the start of a new page and paste the
graph but all I see is a line across the page. I can see
the entire graph on the clipboard.

Which version of Office?

In which view are you (as in the View menu)?

If you go over Edit/Paste Special, what format types are
offered? And which is selected by default?
