Pasting Excel picture in ppt

I often use "copy picture, as shown when printed" for pasting an Excel graphic to ppt. With the 2008 ppt, the default grayscale grid lines show after pasting the picture in ppt. This never happened with earlier versions of ppt. It also happens if I paste the picture in Adobe Illustrator.

Is there anything that I can do so that the default grayscale gridle lines do not show?

Note - these are the default grid lines for the entire spreadsheet and not borders that I have added.

I'm unable to reproduce the issue. Here are the steps I've taken:
1. In Excel, I've inserted a clipart picture (one with transparency, such as
the rabbit, so I could see the gridlines behind it).
2. Selected "Copy Picture..." by holding down Shift while bringing up the
Edit menu.
3. Selecting "As shown when printed" and selecting OK.
4. Pasting into Powerpoint.

What kind of graphic object are you copying? Do you see this with any object
(shapes, pictures, charts)? I'm curious how you are creating your graphic
that you are copying over, if you could provide the steps you are doing to
get the graphic into Excel that could be quite helpful.

You might try looking at Page Setup to see if you have Print Gridlines
turned on. To do that:
1. In Excel, navigate File > Page Setup.
2. Select the Sheet tab and verify that Gridlines is unchecked under the
Print area.

Hi Jason -

I should let the OP speak for himself, but I got the impression that the
matter being copied was simply cell content copied as Picture.

In 2004 the exact procedure you suggested - only selecting a range of cells
rather than a graphic object - produces a facsimile of the copied cell
content with *no* worksheet gridlines.

The exact same steps in 2008 result in a pasted facsimile of the data *with*
the worksheet gridlines. I've found no way to avoid the behavior other than
the workaround described below. Even if I do a regular Copy in XL then Paste
Special> Picture in PPt I wind up with the gridlines.

Not isolated to PPT, btw - the same thing happens if you paste to Word or
other programs, so the problem seems to be on the *copy* end of the process.
The gridlines are being copied even when they aren't supposed to be. The
only way I've found to get the result I believe the OP is looking for is to
go into Excel> Preferences> View & clear the checkbox for Show Gridlines
there before copying... having File> Page Setup> Sheet - Gridlines cleared
doesn't do it. In fact, if the XL pref is cleared it doesn't matter whether
you choose the option to copy As shown on screen or As shown when printed.
