personal folder backup

I need to rebuild my machine and want to back up my
outlook folders and contacts database.

I downloaded outlook backup from the ms website and
performed the install ... all seemed to go well. I then
restarted Outlook, but the 'backup' link is not there
under the 'file' tab (as the documentation suggests).

Any ideas ?

I have also tried to use archive, but it removes all items
from the folders as it archives ... is this ok?
