Photo Editor only allows me to save scans as .pcx files.

I use Windows 2000 and Office 2000. When I used to use my
scanner (Epson GT5500) with Office '97 I could save my
scans in various formats. Now I can only save them as .pcx
format. I have tried running all converters from my PC and
checked the Paint program to see which formats that
allowed and to my surprise found that I could only save
as .bmp files. Is this a problem with Office or Windows.
Please help me as this is driving me crazy.
