Picture Manager File "save as" doesn't work as expected

In all other apps, if I edit a document and then do "save as", the new file
becomes the one being edited. In Picture Manager, it saves the edits so far
but keeps the original file tagged as modified. I have to carefully quit and
NOT save changes. Will the behavior change? (I'm using Office 2003 Pro)

On the getting started task pane, click "export pictures", this is where the option
to change the name, etc. is located.

Mary:
This doesn't answer the question. The Export is the same as FILE->Save AS.
The problem is that Picture Manager still shows the original file as modified
and when I exit it asks to save it. Try something simple; eg, in Notepad,
import a file, make a simpe change (optional) and do a Save As. When you're
done, the filename in the banner has changed to the new file and the original
one is left intact. Same is true for Word, Excel, etc.

Consider Microsoft Word. If I bring a file into work, call it a.doc and edit
it for a while. I then do "save as" and save the file as b.doc. The title
bar becomes b.doc and there are NO changes made to a.doc. That was the kind
of behavior I was expecting (like most other programs). Here, I essentially
have to copy the file first and then edit the copy... backwards..

I wouldn't get to excited about it, Photo Editor is gone and I wouldn't
be too surprised if Picture Manager doesn't make the next version of Office.
