Please Help, leveling people and equipment

Hi

I've been trying to find a solution to my problem for a few days now. For
example, i have 8 people and 4 work stations, two people work with one
station so it becomes 4 teams.
i would like to level on both the pool of resources and the pool of work
stations but they have to by working together at the same time, I had two
tasks with each resource but it wouldn't schedule properly (ie a station
working without people at it). If one work stations goes down, then 2 people
can work on another different task for that resource pool.

Please help, could the answer lie in the task duration, fixed units or fixed
work

Thanks

Hello,

No, the answer is in the lmeveling parameters itself.
Uncheck "Leveling can adjust individual assignments on a task"
Hope this helps,

I suspect you are trying to make Project do what Project is not designed
to do? Project is designed to compute a schedule based on an assumed
logical sequence of task. it does not easily model a schedule where
decisions and branches, e.g. "if one work station goes down".

As you explain what you are trying to do, it's not clear to me that it
will work. I can see how you could model the operation with bespoke
programming (not in Project but in a general purpose programming
language), or with a production planning system.

Hi,

I beg to disagree, particularly to the referral to a production management
system.
AXAPTA, a Microsoft Dynamics production management system, for scheduling
refers to ... Microsoft Project.

Grteetings,

You are surely right. I didn't understand the question/basis.

I have tried to use a parallel task with just the equipment resource and link
the starting date to be the same as the task for the people, like a hammock
link. But this is not working out for me, when i level they become split and
i have a test station without people using it. Any suggestions to level
across both people and equipment on one task?

Chan,

I guess you are trying to schedule production operations that require
multiple resources like machines and workers. If you have to schedule
hundreds or thousands of such operations with resource leveling,
project management software may need laborious and time-consuming
effort in resource leveling. Rescheduling of the existing workload in
response to major changes in workflow is again laborious. There are
however a few best-of-breed scheduling tools that schedule such
operations automatically and quickly without task splitting or
resource overloading.
