Portfolio Analyzer missing some projects

J

Joe Mitura

Hello,

If I try and analyze projects in Portfolio analyzer and I see the Projects
Drop Down (multiple items) to filer on. Some of our enterprise projects are
missing from the drop down. How can I force the projects to appear in the
drop down, thus be available to be analyzed in the Portfolio Analyzer?

Thanks for any and all help,
Joe Mitura

Hi Joe,

Can you please check that you have actually published the projects ( not
only saved, but actually published) ? If you are unsure just re-publish the
projects you are missing in PA and rebuild your cube and see if it works
Let me know if it worked
Thanks

Joe:

Any chance that these projects have non-alphanumeric characters in their
names? Dashes, in particular, can cause this behavior. Do you see errors in
the Server Application log?

Thanks for the reply.

No errors. The projects missing do not have any unusual characters in them.
Though as a second item I do see projects with dashed and underlines in them
in the cube.

Thanks
Joe

Joe:

The illegal characters cause very unpredictable behaviors. Sometimes they
affect the specific project, sometimes they cause problems, sometimes they
don't, and you can't be certain where they'll show up, but tend to be more
so in the cube builds than anywhere else. Were illegal characters used in
Enterprise field names and values? How about resource names? If this has
been a regular practice, it could be the root cause of your issue.

What service pack is on your server? Are you using any custom cost fields?

Thanks all for your reply.

The illegal characters isn't the problem. It seems that applying SQL SP4 to
the OLAP Cube SQL Server is the problem. It broke the nightly OLAP Builds.
I thought that the nightly builds were taking place and it seems that they
aren't. Even when I tried to rebuild the OLAP cube it wasn't getting
rebuilt. I am currently going through MS and have an incident. when I learn
more I'll provide details.

Thanks again all for your ideas.

I have looked and there aren't any. I looked for some sort of indication
that the rebuild that I manually ran was in the event log and there isn't any
and I looked for an event for the ones that were supposed to happen nightly
and there aren't any. I have look in the event logs on the project server,
the analysis server and the SQL server where Project Server SQL DB is housed.

sorry,
Joe Mitura

Joe:

In that case, I'd try deleting it and building it from Analysis Manager.

Thanks to one and all for all of your help. The solution....

Stopping and starting of the Project Server Scheduled Process Service on the
Project Server box was the trick. MS support gave me the area to look at.
Starting and stopping of this service immeadiately kicked off the schedule
and it ran last night as scheduled.

Thanks
