Powerpoint and Word crash

J

I just installed the Office 12.0.1 update, thinking it would fix the PowerPoint crashing problem, but it's still happening. About 30% of my powerpoint documents (created on my macbook pro using Office 2004) cause PowerPoint 2008 to hang up whenever I try to open them. I can open them on a Windows machine, or using Apple Keynote, but Office 2008 (Powerpoint) will not open - it just hangs. Any suggestions?

I have Mac OS X 10.5, and I recently bought student mac office 2008, and it won't open.

There is a performance issue with Leopard and PPT 2008, which was fixed in 12.0.1. If there are still crashing issues, please attach one of the files so we can see them using MSConnect.

Thanks

Hey All,
Thank goodness for this email community. I too am having similar problems. With my large ppt files--I have 15-20 slide lectures, it hangs while trying to open and then while in Notes view it will repeat lines by itself, random markings appear below where I am typing and it cannot be deleted. However, when I click onto another slide and then back, those markings are gone.

Then when I try to print in notes view, it hangs while loading and takes at least 5 minutes before it prints.

I need a functional ppt to write my lectures this weekend. Please help.

Phil - I am having Powerpoint crash problem. My Macbook Pro is current on Apple and Office 2008 software versions. Powerpoint crashes when I try to print; it gets through about 4 pages and then goes away. This happens whether I am printing to a printer or generating PDF using the Mac capability. I've sent the problem report to Microsoft when prompted to. This happens after a clean boot of the Mac OS.

Today it randomly crashed when I was adding a table to a slide.

I created a PowerPoint file with office Mac 2004 but two days later I wasn't able to open the file. I though it was the software. I reinstalled office, I downloaded all the updates, I tried opening the file with another Mac but was getting the same error. The file works on a pc, I can make changes to the file and change the file extension but PowerPoint for Mac 2004 wont open the file.

Error
The application PowerPoint quit unexpectedly.

Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.

Click relaunch to launch the application again. Click report to see more details or send a report to Apple.

Have had my 24" Intel iMAC for a year - had no difficulties running Office 2004 on my ol' trusty, but slow, Blueberry iMAC (2nd gen.).

Have never been able to get PowerPoint to run properly on the new machine. It will open a document and then hang....forever. Well, maybe not forever because I always give up after 10 minutes or so and do a force quit to re-boot.

Have uninstalled, re-installed the program a number of times, have downloaded all of the updates. Nada. It still refuses to open any pps files.

All of the other Office programs run like sweet dreams.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Michael

i am on Leopard 10.5.1 (not an intel-based laptop) with newly installed Office 2008. For my larger PPT files (seems like over 4MB), when I try to print Notes view in Black and White, PowerPoint crashes.
If removing the pdf maker is the solution, I'm in trouble. I have to create PDF's to upload to my print service to print my manuals.

Any suggestions?

Babs,

Would is be possible for you to send me a sample presentation that is exhibiting the problem that you are describing?

Thanks,

Scot

I had the ppt hanging business as above after I installed leopard on my G4 powerbook. I chucked out office 2004 and reinstalled my old office x for mac and all is well again, albeit with an older version of office.

All my Microsoft applications present a warning message "65 microsoft power pt.><carbon lib><cfm priv_coloursync<>"
This happened whilst using powerpoint and inserting a photo onto a new slide on my G4 laptop.
Please Help.

Looks like this PDF issue was solved a while ago, but PowerPoint 2008 for
Mac can actually save directly to PDF from the File > Save As... Command and
then selecting "PDF" as the save format. So if the Acrobat PDFMaker isn't
working, I would suppose that one could try using the PDF output functions
built into PPT 2008. Seems to work good for me.

BTW, I really find the PDFMaker toolbar annoying in my Office apps, either
Mac or Windows - so I generally opt out of installing them when I install
Acrobat. It's sufficient just to print to PDF using the PDF printer option
from the Print menu, I feel...

Hi,
There aren't any known problems that would cause what you are seeing.

Please undertake general troubleshooting steps. One of them may cure the
ill. If it does, please report back which one did the trick for you.

Hi,
I just bought a MacBook Pro with 10.5 and PowerPoint from Mac Office for X crashes the very same way. WOrd and Excel work. Time machine is not turned on.

running OSX 10.5.2, Office X, on a MacBookPro, Intel, and Powerpoint was crashing. Just did an Office update last week. Had forgotten about the PDFMaker.ppa file. Had this problem before with Office, and created a new folder and moved all the PDFMaker.ppa files to it, and it cured the crashes, as it did this time too. PP is working fine now.

Thanks for the reminder..... :goofy:

My text in all of my powerpoints that have been saved is garbled and unreadable all of a sudden in the outline panes, but clear in the slides themselves. My version is PPT 11.0
I am running it on a powerbookG4 with a Mac OSX 10.3.9

Good evening, my PPT freezes while trying to add an image. First, it was just from external files and I could upload the files as clipart to bypass the glitch, but now even that will freeze up my programming. The program has been reinstalled twice and no progress. I do now get the message "An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the MS Framework Library" whenever bring up any of the Big Three, if that helps and I am running OfficeMac 2004 v 10 on a 10.4.11 Mac.
Thank you

I've done a complete program reinstall several times but the problem persists. For the past 7 or 8 months the microsoft products have worked fine. But one day about a month ago everything went on the "blink"...the start-up window appears and then it crashs Any help would be appreciated. Here is the crash report I get:

Hi Bryce -

I don't *know* that this is the cause of the problem, but it sure doesn't
help... And I don't claim to understand the crash logs, but what I do see
suggests that your version of Office is roughly 2 years behind in updates.

According to the log it's at 11.2.3 & the current update is 11.4.2, so it's
way behind the current build. Running it on Leopard (10.5.2) - especially
when you take into consideration all of Apple's Security updates - it isn't
surprising that there would be problems. In fact, it seems odd that even
Entourage isn't acting up.

I'd suggest that you go to the Entourage Help menu, select the Check for
Updates command & let Office catch up to what is a significantly different
version of OS X than what your Office build was designed for (Leopard isn't
just an update to Tiger). Immediately afterward (before attempting to lunch
any of the programs) run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions, then
restart your Mac and see if you continue to have difficulties.

You might also want to set the Office AutoUpdate feature to check for
updates monthly in order to avoid getting behind in the updates.

I an running a Power Mac G5 and recently installed Mac OS 10.5
(Leopard). I have Microsoft Office Mac 10.0 which I have used for a
long time with no problem. Now, however, when I launch either,
especially Powerpoint, the file opens for about 5 seconds then
crashes. Anybody have a similar experience and have a solution.
Microsoft tells me I need to upgrade to Windows 2004.
