Powerpoint Open File question

How do I set the open file window to come up in detail view? It always comes
in Preview view, which is not helpful for me in finding the files I need to
edit and review.

Did you save the files in .pps? If so, it will goes into a slideshow mode
automatically when you open them.
Save the file as a normal presentation instead.

no--all the files are .ppt's. And the problem is in the Open File view, not
after I open the file--that operation works just fine. This is just a
problem with the window from which you select and open files--it always comes
up in Preview mode (from the choice of Tiles, Icons, List, Detail,
Properties, Preview) and I don't have too much use for that and would much
prefer Detail mode where I can sort on modified date (I have a lot of
Powerpoint files to choose from in many directories).

Oh, and I'm using Office 2003. I guess I was hoping to find that this is a
configurable setting--perhaps via Registry change?
