Powerpoint transitions

I want to set a transition for less a half second. How do I do this? It
won't let me type in 0.5. I am using it with students for a word list and
want to flash the word up for a half a second then move on to the next
slide(next word). thanks

You don't mention the version but you should be able to set down to 00:00.1
secs.
Alternatively place a shape off slide, give it an animation that lasts 0.5
secs and then set the transition to zero secs
