received this errormessage when trying to open a .ppt 4.0 version file in
..ppt 4.0 (off of Windows XP Home).

Any one have an idea as to why it won't open?

Is the original poster trying to run PPT 4.0 under WinXP? Have they
been able to run it at all? I've had no luck running PPT4.0 even under
Win98SE, on several different machines. It sort of works but becomes
unstable very fast and eventually stall or locks up.

Or are they trying to open a PPT4.0 file in the latest versions of
PPT? I don't have access to PPTXP or 2003 at the moment, but I seem to
recall that PPTXP would not open PPT3 files. Can't remember what it
did with PPT4. I also seem to recall that with PPT2003, it wouldn't
open PPT4 files either, but could be just because my brain has been
scrambled after 6 weeks of opera, including the next installment of
the ring cycle: "SiegFRIED". And yes, I am the lunatic still using
PPT4 to create files to run under the PPT3 Viewer for surtitles!

Seems so:

"trying to open a .ppt 4.0 version file in
.ppt 4.0 (off of Windows XP Home)."

Opera will do that to you. Try Firefox instead? ;-)

Not yet. Just starting to get into Safari!
I thought PPT4 support was dropped in either 2000 or 2002 but if you'd like to
send me a small PPT4 file, I'd be curious to try it in 97 onward. Email to steve
at sign pptools dot com is fine.

PPT2000 will open PPT3 and PPT4 files, as I can do that now. Its newer
versions I can't remember the results. Will put together a couple of
small files, probably tommorrow evening and send them.

Thanks

Villem
