I have purchased MS Office 2003 Student (coming in the mail) to install on my
desktop PC and a laptop I own and use with my student daughter. I currently
use Outlook express 6 because it was free and is supported by my ISP, Time
Warner Roadrunner. I found on Microsoft web site, "how to upgrade from
outlook express to outlook 2002 or 2003" which is what I'm essentially doing
with the install of office 2003 Student version... If I follow these
instructions...

1) Will my local folders and the e-mail contained in them in Outlook Express
6 be accessessable in Outlook 2003?
2) Will my address book and all the contacts in Outlook Express 6 be
accessable in Outlook 2003?
3) How do I tell if the Office 2003 Student version I have needs any updates
(like in any of the service packs?)?
4) Are there instructions for these updates?
5) Will outlook 2003 be able to find the ISP?
6) Any think else I should look out for?

You might want to export mail from OE to OL, as importing alters the mail
dates - this may be important to you
You can also export Accounts/settings.
Once OL is set up, send a test mail to yourself. Do not open OE as mail will
be received in this.

My ISP also only supports OE. Although I have Outlook 2003 I continue to use
OE. If I don't I get doubles of all of my emails and my ISP cannot/will not
help me. Easier to stick with what works.

My ISP also only supports OE but in 5 years I've never had to call for
support, other than when service was interupted.
Allthough I have AV, I dont receive many duplicate mails, so I continue to
use OL.
But perhaps I'm lucky?

Just as a matter of interest, how does your ISP know what your default mail
handler is?.. if you set up your ISP mail account in Outlook, and then
remove account details from Outlook Express, do you still get double
e-nails?..

My ISP has no knowledge of my default mail handler. They do supply an
installation disk, but I set up manually.
I've never used OE, so its never been set up to handle mail, other than as a
newsreader and I access that directly from a shortcut that opens the OE
Newsreader directly
I occassionally get double emails, but have had none today - so far! - I use
NIS 2005 (only because I got a v.good deal on a three user installation, it
was cheaper than renewing)
