Preparing for print

This may be a question for another group, but I've been printing from
Publicher to Acrobat Distiller to get pdfs. I notice a great loss in graphic
quality. Any tips?

Thanks,
TM

Change the options in the Distiller to "Press" or "Print".

Graphics still appear fuzzy on screen (for press and print). I haven't sent
to printer yet though.

One great thing about Acrobat is that you can match the quality to the
output. This allows you to compress a document for transmission, or to put
on the web, but if you want to send it to the printer you shouldn't compress
at all. I recall that Acrobat will assume some degree of compression, so
you'll need to change this.

Are you using PDFWriter? If you are, it is garbage/trash/junk/rubbish.

If you are using Distiller, whose Postscript printer driver are you using?

What settings do you have in Distiller?

There is no reason whatsoever, to get poor pictures in PDF's from Publisher.
It is a settings issue or the method you are using to create the PDF files.

I am using the AdobePS driver for Distiller, and I have unchecked the
compression settings on the compression tab. I still get fuzzy edge around
graphics. Photos look fine though.

Thanks,
TM

How does it actually print on paper?

Prints the same - fuzzy. But, now that I've been working on this I think it
might be a problem with the graphic. I am overlaying our company logo over a
colored background. The logo didn't originally have a transparent background
and looks fuzzy after distilled. If I use the original graphic with the
white matte, it looks fine. Is there a way to insert graphics with
transparent background? It's frustrating because everything looks fine in
publisher. Although printing from Publisher doesn't look like what I see on
the monitor, when distilled there is a noticeable difference.

Thanks,
TM

What picture file format is the original graphic, and the one you have made
transparent.

Somehow you have reduced the DPI of the original to screen resolution by the
sounds of things.
