Preserving outline formatting when saving as PDF

When I print and outline using a physical printer, the outline formatting is
preserved. But when I "print" the outline as a PDF (via Word's "Save As"
command), the formatting is lost. Third-party Word-to-PDF programs work fine
- but I cannot figure out how to accomplish this simple task with Word's own
features. Help!

Word 2007's PDF creation tool is not a print driver and therefore cannot
behave like one to print from Outline view.

PDF printer drivers apparently work differently than Word's built-in PDF
converter. I don't think there is anything you can do about that.
