Previously Working Hyperlink No Longer Working

A

Aldini

I have a rather major document in which I've inserted numerous bookmarks and
set up many hyperlinks. All was working well until a few days ago, I turned
on my computer to continue working on the document, and all the hyperlinks
had changed from active/working hyperlinks to entries such as "{ HYPERLINK \1
"Chptr1" }"
I can still do Ctrl+G, find the desired bookmark, click on it and be taken
to that bookmark, but the hyperlink does not work. I also tried deleting
some of the hyperlinks and then adding them again--no luck. Curiously, when
writing this note, I was going to copy and paste the { HYPERLINK \1 Chptr2" }
example given above, and instead of pasting that text, it in fact pasted the
original text that was hyperlinked that used to be a working hyperlink.
I would appreciate any insights into what may have happened, but
particularly what I can do about it now.
Thanks,
Aldini

You're seeing the field codes. Ctrl+A, Shift+F9 should toggle back to the
result.

You may also want to look under Tools | Options... and clear the 'Field
codes' checkbox. Somehow, in the process of investigating this solution, I
managed to change this setting without ever opening the 'Options' dialog
box...

As you suspected, the "Field Codes" box was checked, which I also did not
check. So I cleared it, closed my document, and reopened it, and the
hyperlinks were working properly. Thank you so much.
