Printing from One Note

For the next version, please include visible page breaks. It would be easier
to print notes directly from the program rather than sending a file to Word
and then going through a pagination process. What a hassle. I share my
notes and need to be able to read them anytime, so I need hard copies. As it
is, the text is often clipped across lines and you can't tell where it's
going to end up because there's no zoom feature in Print Preview. It's very
frustrating.

I don't know if that will make into V2 or not, but think about what you're
asking. If you want to be able to neatly organize notes onto neat 8.5x11
pages, use a pad of paper. The whole point of OneNote is to get rid of
one's reliance on paper.

That's a ridiculous answer. What you're suggesting is just one use case for
OneNote. You cannot tie people into the OneNote platform. You can't read
notes on the screen for long periods of time without causing eye strain. Why
does OneNote include so many options for exporting notes and printing them?
Because, whilst OneNote should be a central space for notes, people need
other copies too, be they hard copies or soft copies.

What is being suggested wouldn't be particularly intrusive to those not
interested in this feature, if for example a light grey rule across the
screen marked page boundaries. Anyway, this could easily be a feature that
could be turned off.

You cannot ignore that notes are best read on paper. OneNote shouldn't try
to replace paper but rather supplement it, and I think this is the situation
at the moment.

You'd be wrong. I make notes on my Tablet PC. I am a University student and
at some point I'm going to have to do some heavy revision (especially of the
damn Artificial Intelligence course!). There's no way I can revise from
screen... that'd ruin my eyes.

Okay, Bruce. You have your point of view. A lot of people are doing
exactly what you say, without ruining their eyes.

Ever heard of "homework"? Yes, some of us do in fact have to give people
hardcopies of our documents. ;)

I have to chime in on the frustration with Chris's response. I'm a law
student. I enjoy OneNote for organizaton purposes and for easy search/find
features while in class, but ultimately, I need to print my notes to get an
overall take on them, which is such a tedious process right now. The margins
are too narrow, or the font is too large, or part of the notes are cut off
the page.

There are some thing humans can still do faster than computers. By
"scrolling" down a page with my eyes, I can review my notes faster than I can
by using the scroller on the screen. And we should have every right to spare
our eyes... not to mention our backs in case we would l like to leave our
notebooks at home.

Please quit the sarcastic responses and respect the fact that people would
like to use OneNote for hardcopy versions as well as electronic. The sarcasm
does nothing but add to frustration.

I second that.
I am at my desktop PC all day (no Laptop / No Tablet PC).
When I go home, I need to print various pages to have the latest notes with
me.
This has GOT to be VERY common.
We need better Print options.

Microsoft considered increasing the printing for OneNote 2007
substantially, but then decided against it. It turned out that a lot
more people used printing than they thought and that they were generally
happy with the way it worked. So they invested resources rather into
Outlook integration, tables, drawing tools, etc.

You can try to get around a few limitations by saving the notes as PDF
in 2007 and then printing the PDFs.

Please look at providing page breaks as described in other comments. I would
like to place teaching materials within OneNote 2007, but without this
feature I will not be able to use OneNote as hoped.

I also need to print out notes, usually a mix of text and pics, but I hate
when my pics are printed out half on one page and the other half on the next
page. It's lame. And transferring to pdf is ok, but i'm not satisfied with
that type of half-way solution.... I hope the next version will seriously
address the issue. And Chris H, your input is not professional, not helpful,
and not appreciated.

I have to agree. I'm a writer, and while OneNote is an invaluable tool for
organizing my notes, it falls down in being able to place text so it falls
within a given page and in being able to print easily. My editors insist on
hard copies in many cases.

As a former magazine editor who once was responsible for the layout of the
magazines I edited, I can tell you with conviction that it's not that easy to
"guestimate" what's going to fit on a page.

Hi. I have a problem with printing that doesn't seem to have been mentioned!
When I had a Vista machine, One Note was able to be set up as a printer (bit
like PDF Creator or Microsoft XPS printer). Now I have Windows 7, thisis not
possible. Can anyone advise if it is possible or absolutely not?

Is it printing "FROM" ON (as the subject of this oooooold thread you
jumped upon [which mostly is useless and/or counter-productive])?

From what you say yourself it rather seems that you wold be talking
about printing "TO" ON.

Which version of Win7 are you using now?
Could it be that it's a 64bit version?
