Printing Problem

Word 2000

I have some users that have reported a problem printing shipping labels.
I'm not sure this is a Word issue (could be a problem with the printer), but
I wanted to explore the possibility of it being a Word problem, just to make
sure that my bases are covered.

Here is what the users are doing. When they print labels, they need to
print 3 different sizes of labels at the same time. They enter the address,
and there is a macro that formats the address for each of the label sizes.
The user then needs to select File > Print. When it works properly, the
printer will wait for the user to put the label sheets into the manual feed
tray.

I am told that this worked flawlessly up until September 6, when everyone
suddenly started having problems. Now, the printer will not wait for the
user to put the label sheets into the manual feed tray--it will just spit
out the labels on plain paper. I set the printer options so that it should
pull from the manual feed tray, and while that seemed to work initially, the
users are telling me that they are still having problems.

The template is stored locally, and since all the users started having
problems at the same time, I would say that the problem is NOT with the
macro or the template. But at the same time, I did try to take a look at
the macro, and each time that I open the template and try to go into the VBA
editor, my computer freezes. Maybe the template that was put on those
machines was corrupt to being with. Could it be that template corruption is
causing this problem?

Right now, I'm out of ideas, so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Word Heretic

G'day "Thomas M" <[email protected]>,

I am betting someone has played with the printer's settings itself.
Check the hardware.

Yep, that appears to be what happened. We reset the printer to the factory
default settings (after eliminating all other possibilities), and it started
working again. I thought that it was probably something like that, but
since they have a macro for doing templates, and since the computer froze
every I tried to open the VBA editor to look at the macro, I thought that I
should at least consider document corruption as the source of the problem.
Also, no one was able to tell me if there were custom printer settings that
they needed to keep, so I was reluctant to reset the printer to the factory
defaults for fear of fixing one problem and creating others, so I decided to
error on the side of caution and do that as a last resort.
