Printing Text

When I print in Word 2000, the text prints in blue even though the font is
set to black and it looks "skakey". This doesn't happen in Publisher.

It might look black but if you are using the Automatic font (which is the
default and tied to your Windows Display Properties) then it may not
actually be black. Check your font color and if it's Automatic, change it to
black.

I tried changing the font to black (it was automatic) and it is still
printing light blue. Almost like it is running out of black ink, but I knw
that is not the case b/c the ink is fine in Publisher.

Then it might be the reverse. Publisher could is using a font color that
isn't pure black and/or your printer is actually blending the colors using
your color ink instead of the black ink which isn't uncommon. IOW, try an
new black ink cartridge or print a test page from your Printer Properties,
which *should* use black ink for black, to be sure.

I printed the test page and it came out normal. I am still having the
problem only in word. The text is faded black to light blue or else it is
not visible except for random parts. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall
Word? And if I do, should I back up all files on a floppy? What if I don't
have the discs?

It sounds to me as if your printer is using a composite black and you need a
new color cartridge.
