Problem opening Project 2002

Jerrald Noland

Can anyone tell me why every time I try to open Project 2002 Standard
edition, the following message is displayed.

The command is attempting to use a web page from the gbui://blank.htm/. You
have not idenitified this site as a trusted site. Microsoft Project cannot
display pages from untrusted sites, so we cannot execute the command. If you
want to use pages from the site gbui://blank.htm/ in Microsoft Project, you
will need to make this site a trusted site in Internet Explorer.

After the above message is displayed, the only way for me to exit Project is
to use the Task List and press End Task to exit out of Project.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like it is getting stuck trying to open the Project Guide. Since
you can't get into Project to shut it off try going to the Registry. Choose
the Windows Start menu and select Run, type Regedit and click OK. Double
click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then Software then Microsoft then Office then
10.0 then MS Project then Options then Interface then GBUIDisplayToggle
(whew...) and change this value to 0. Close the Registry.

Now you should be able to open Project without it searching for a Project
Guide and you can go to Tools/Options/Interface and turn it back on or just
leave it off if you don't use it.

BJ:

I don't see an Interface Key under the Options Key within the Registry.
Also, I did a Registry search and did not locate the GBUIDisplayToggle key.
Do you know of any other way that might help me solve this issue.

BJ:

I found the fix. I went to another machine that had MS Project 2002
Standard installed and I exported the Interface Registry key to a network
shared drive, went back to the machine that was having the problem, imported
the key with the setting for the GBUIDisplayToggle key already set to 0.
This fix my problem

Thanks for all your help

Feel free to pass this info on if you feel it can help out others with the
same type of problem

It's possible that this key does not exist unless you have turned off the
Project Guide at some point. So for all of you who are also having this
problem, if you search for the GBUIDisplayToggle key in the Registry and
don't find it you can add a new DWORD in the Registry called
GBUIDisplayToggle with a Value of 0 at

HKEY_USERS\\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\MS Project\Options\Interface

This will turn off the MS Project Guide for Project 2002. Replease 10.0
above with 11.0 for Project 2003.
