Problem sending email in Outlook 2007

I installed Outlook 2007,set up my profile, sent and received test emails,
and downloaded all of my mail from my mail server fine. I then tried to send
my first email and got the following error...

"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists, restart Outlook."

It only happens when I try to send email and happens instantly when you hit
the key before it tries to actually connect to the server. I restarted,
rebooted, and then re-installed Outlook - twice. I access gmail using
pop3/smtp. The weird part is that the test messages work fine when I am
setting up the account. I have even tried creating clean profiles on each of
my hard drives to rule out a permissions problem. Two internal SATA/NTFS
drives and two external USB/FAT-32 drives. Any help would be appreciated,

Just to point it out, I am facing similer kind of Issue with Outlook 2007. I
am using it with My Yahoo POP Account and Gmail POP account and with my own
domain POP account,

In every case, outlook 2007 is able to successfully download all emails, how
ever it is unable to Send any outgoing emails...

I have double checked all settings that I set the outgoing server port
address (465)... I re-type all passwords, but still in every case, while
trying to send, I get this either of these errors,

"Connection to the server was interupted" or "Operation Timed out"

!!!

I am using Windows Vista x86 Ultimate with No AVS or Firewall (I have turned
off the Windows Defauilt IFC)

I am using ADSL connection in bridge mode, (I dial PPPoE to access the ADSL
connection)

Any suggestion any one ???

Try and disable your AV integration with Outlook and test.

Disable the incoming and outgoing email scanning from your AV and also if Anti Spam filtering is set disable that also.

You will still be protected with your resident AV program.

Norton or MacAfee by any chance

Hi,
I am still having this problem. I tried disabling my anti-virus
scanning, Kaspersky actually... :), but I am still getting the error. I
then went into settings and disabled all plugins (Kaspersky suggested it), no
dice. The error happens IMMEDIATELY when I hit the button to send an email,
it doesn't even get to the point where it has put it in the outbox so there
is no attempt to connect to the server. Thanks!

I only get the error if I set the follow up message flag and try to
send or save the message.

I have both POP and IMAP accounts (the latter accessing a GroupWise
server), as well as old .PST files.

Does anyone know of a fix for the error message related to the follow
up message flag? When I google around, it looks like a related
problem has been around since 2001, but I haven't seen where an actual
fix exists.

Thank you for your help.

Hmmm, now I am getting the "The messaging interface has returned an
unknown error. If the problem
persists, restart Outlook." error even without setting the message
flag when I reply to certain messages that were sent to me from before
I upgraded to Outlook 2007 (I am accessing them through old Outlook
2003 .pst files). Oddly enough, if I forward the same messages to the
person(s) to whom I want to reply, I do not get the error. I wonder
if somehow Outlook is using information stored about the original
sender to me that is no longer valid when I try to reply to that user
(even though I am using the same email address and using the same
account profile regardless of whether I use Reply or Forward).
