Problem with documents

I have problems accessing previous documents that now say are read only.
When I try to delete the check next to the Read Only box, it says Access
Denied. What can I do to get control of my documents again. This is not
only in Word, but Word Perfect and Works. What am I doing wrong?

Are your documents on a CD? If so, copy them to your hard disk and then
clear the read-only property.
