Problem with indent and bullets - really need your help...

Hi,

I have a super annoying problem with Word 2002 (Office XP).
The problem is that in new or existing documents, I cannot indent or
bullet-on-off a single line of text.

If I put my cursor on one single line, or highlight one single line,
and try to indent or bullet-enable it, sometimes the whole paragraph
or even the whole document! will get indented and loose its previous
formating state.

As you can imagine, it renders Word almost not usable, as I depend on
indent and bullets for my work.

I have un-installed and re-installed Office, and even renamed the
normal.dot template file, but I still have the problem.

As far as I know, I'm up to date with the latest Office patches.

Can anyone help me? (please email)

It sounds like your styles are set to automatically update. You need
to modify every style you use and make sure automatic update is turned
OFF.

For a nice explanation of exactly what's happening, and how to make it
stop, see

Sorry. You posted your question to the newgroup, so you will get your
answer in the newsgroup. This way, if other people have the same
problem, they can just look at the answers you got, and don't have to
ask again. (Plus, I'm too lazy to fire up my email client, which is a
separate application from my newsreader.)

Thank you so much Martha for pointing me in the right direction.
That was it! I have searched knowledgebases and asked many people, and nobody knew.

God bless you!
