Problem with Office installation

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I installed the trial version of office and then upgraded to the full version, downloading it online. It installs fine, but when I try to run any of the office programs, I get a message that says: "A problem has been detected with the Microsoft Office installation. Try running the Office Installer again to resolve the problem." I've reinstalled it at least 5 times now, and I still get the same message. I've uninstalled office and then installed it. I've restarted my computer. Nothing will make that message go away. Any help?

We don't have any experience with the download versions. This is not a type
of error we normally get.

Our suggestions for install/update issues are only with the physical media.
I would have no clue what the download version might have added or left out
that is causing the problem. Sorry. I suggest you contact Microsoft support.

I got this back from my contact:

Remove and reenter the Office 2008 product key

If your copy of Office 2008 was installed with an invalid product key, or if
you mistakenly used the same product key to install Office 2008 on more than
one computer, you must remove the invalid product key and enter a valid
product key to use Office 2008.

In the Finder, select /Applications/Microsoft Office
2008/Office/OfficePID.plist, and then on the File menu, click Move to Trash.

Select /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft
Office 2008 settings.plist, and then on the File menu, click Move to Trash.

On the Apple menu, click Restart.

After your computer restarts, also delete the Office 2008 trial.

Empty the Trash.

If this does not work, let me know.
