Problems attaching Word document from sub-directory

I have a user with W2K,Ofc2K. The user is having problems
trying to attach a small Word document from a sub-
directory in his "personal" network drive. It will cause
Outlook to crash and he will have to reboot. If the user
saves the Word document to his desktop and then adds to
the email as an attachment, it will send it o.k. The
network drive was not compressed but that has been changed
and the user is still having the same problem. Any ideas?
