Problems creating company logo in Word

I'm trying to create company letterhead in Word. The logo is a corner piece
that has lines that extend across the top and down along the left side of the
page (like a giant upside-down L). I have several issues I'm running into:
1) Is there a way to anchor such a large L-shaped logo and still have the
interior part open for the letter message? and 2) For the logo, I'm having
difficulty with the fonts, which not everyone has (and clients would not). Is
there a way to make a jpg of text in a Word box and have a transparent
background so the text could float over a non-jpg color square? (jpg colors
don't translate correctly with our printer, so we need the colored square to
be just a box drawn and colored in Word, where we can control the colors.) We
currently have a gif copy of the text, but it is blurry when made into a pdf.
Thanks for any help anyone can give. We have Word 2000 on Windows XP.

1) Draw your lines in a header

2) Create your text in a text box with no fill and no line. Copy it and
paste special as a picture. Specify text wrapping of say 'in front of text'
and hopefully this will do the job.

Thanks, Keith! Re 2) I tried saving the text in a text box and special
copy/paste as a picture and, so far, that is working. Fabulous! Re 1) The
lines are actually thick and contain text, so they would be pictures as well.
The lefthand side line extends all the way down the page--iIf I put the
entire thing in a header, where would I put the text?

Put it in a tall thin text box in the header with 'no line ' and 'no fill'
specified. Pull down Format/Text direction and hopefully that will give you
what you want

Sorry I did not respond sooner; I only just today (4-7-07) got an e-mail
saying responses had come in. Thanks to all who responded--the information
has been very useful indeed. Anchoring the graphic to a paragraph mark in
the header works fine--I was thinking the entire logo had to fit into the
header (the logo extends all the way down the left side and all the way
across the top), but only the anchor has to be in the header, and it
functions like a watermark. It looks great, and we are all grateful! Thanks!

Glad I could help.
