Problems Printing on Legal Size Paper (Pub 2002)

H

Heather

I am working on a brochure that needs tobe printed on
legal size paper on my laser printer. In page setup I
have selected the legal size paper option, but it is still
printing as if I have selected letter size paper. Even in
print preview it is showing the letter size paper.
Interestingly enough, I am not having the same problem
with my laser printer. I can preview and print on legal
paper just fine.

Any suggestions as to how I can remedy this problem?

Thanks,

Heather

This has nothing whatsoever to do with Publisher, but is an issue with your
printer driver - have you been to the manufacturer's site and downloaded the
latest?

I thought that too. But I only have this problem in
Publisher. Just to be safe I contacted the customer
support for my printer and made sure I had all the latest
drivers, which I do. So it seems to be a hardware rather
than a software problem.

Thanks,

Although this problem may only exhibit itself in Publisher, it isn't a
Publisher problem. It is almost certainly a problem with the configuration
of your printer driver.
Programs like Word and Excel aren't DTP programs, so they will automatically
configure the printer driver to match the paper size you are creating your
document on.
However, because Publisher assumes you know what you are doing (you might be
creating more than one copy of your publication on one sheet of paper, for
example), it does not set the settings in the printer driver. So you need
to go to File > Page Setup > Printer and Paper, and set the paper size in
there. And then click Properties, and explore that dialog thoroughly and
make sure that the paper size is also set in there.

Ed's right: in Publisher, paper sizes have to be configured twice: once for
Publisher, once for the printer. This is not the case with most apps, and
it's that way in Publisher due to it being a DTP program.
