Problems with Office97 on XP

C

Cliff R.

I just got a new laptop with XP Pro and I installed my Office 97.
Whenever I open a Word or Excel file, I get an error that says I can't
open 2 files with the same name at the same time (the Excel error) or
that the file is already in use, do I want to make a copy (the Word
error). I called Toshiba who said they think this is a known issue
and to find an Office service pack that will fix it, but I can't find
one. If this is a known issue then maybe someone else has experienced
it, and knows where I can find this particular service pack or patch.
Thanks!
Cliff

Hi Cliff,

What is the exact error / dialog you are seeing? If you goto Help/About
inside Word or Excel what is the version you have mentioned? ALso are you
opening a file from to a network drive, does the issue occur from the local
c: drive? Do you have NAV installed?
