Project 2000 to mySQL Database

We are attempting to deploy Project 2000 saved to a mySQL database.
Previously, we have had great success using MS Access. Almost everything
works wonderfully, except that when I have an actual start, a % complete, and
a Finish No Earlier Than constraint, then save the project to mySQL, close
the project and reopen, the % complete field reverts back to 0. This occurs
whether I update the task manually thru MSP application or indirectly thru
the database. I can do either of these successfully when saving to an Access
database, so I suspect that the issue is with mySQL. So the question is...
is this a known issue? Can I solve the problem by upgrading MS Project? Or
can I solve the problem by using SQL Server instead of mySQL? Or is there
something I just need to do in configuration of ODBC to make it work
correctly?

I have additional information of things that work correctly. So far, this
is the only calculation/save problem we have encountered.

Thank you for whatever advice or assistance you can give me.

mySQL is not a supported format for saving Project.
Using SQL Server is a supported configuration and it should work.
If the problem is in the mySQL database, then upgrading project will not
help.

Thank you very much. This is precicely what I expected
to hear, but haven't been able to obtain any other
evidence that mySQL was the problem.

Now for my next concern. How do I determine what version
of SQL Server I should obtain? What are the main
deciding factors I need to consider?

I think that the Readme file that comes with project describes the system
requirements.
I think that Project 2000 could read and write to SQL server 7 database, but
I don't think version 7 is available anymore. You are safe going with SQL
Server 2000. The standard version would be fine, and of course the latest
service packs.

Hi,

Have you got the latest ODBC driver for mysql? if not try upgrading it. Any
ODBC database should work.

For any version of Project use public.project
For any version of Project Server use public. project.server

Any ODBC driver "should" work, but the reality is that some of them don't
work.
I recall people having trouble with the Oracle ODBC driver and having to use
the MS supplied Oracle ODBC driver.
It would not be surprising to see that the mySQL driver does not work
perfectly with Project. It is not a supported configuration. Of course it
may be that the driver is fine, but that Project doesn't work with that
driver right, but in any case the end result is the same.

Thank you both very much. We have moved the data over to
a SQL Server database and the odd things that were
happening are not anymore. Your help is much appreciated.
