Project Database (MPD files)

When a Project Database (MPD) file is edited in Project, is the database
dynamically affected by the changes or does the file have to be saved?
Likewise, if changes are made to the MPD file directly (using Access), can
the data in the Project window be dynamically updated without closing the
Project window and re-opening the MPD file in Project? It seems to me that
the updating between applications happens only when the data is saved
(Project to Access) or closed and re-opened (Access to Project).
Unfortunately, the changes are not dynamic as with ODBC. Is this correct?

When a file is opened, you are really playing with a locked copy of the file.
The original is not replaced until there is a save action. So, if you save
a file to MPD and then play with it in Access, you can also open another copy
in Project and edit that one too. Last save wins-- it's called a "race
condition"

You could connect to an ODBC source (such as SQL or Oracle) to avoid the
problem depending on the record locking scheme used.

This would apply to any file, not just Project files

It''s software; it''s not allowed to win.
