Chad --
In the future, please post your Project Server questions to the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is devoted to
the Microsoft Project desktop application only. To answer your question,
the answer is no. Consider this example:
-- The RBS value for both Dale and Mickey is Corporate.IT.DBA, meaning that
both are at the same "root note" as you say.
-- The RBS value for Butch, Henry, and Pancho is Corporate.IT.DBA.Team,
which means that they are all one level below Dale and Mickey.
-- When Dale uses the Build Team from Enterprise dialog to build a project
team, he will see Butch, Henry, and Pancho, but he will NOT see Mickey.
-- When Mickey uses the Build Team from Enterprise dialog to build a
project team, she will see Butch, Henry, and Pancho, but she will NOT see
Dale.
This is a limitation of using of the RBS field to control access to
resources in Project Server. To get around this limitation, your Project
Server administrator could do the following:
1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage security
3. Click the Add Category button
4. Name the new category something like "My Fellow Project Managers"
5. In the Users and Groups section, select the Project Managers group on
the left and click the Add button
6. In the Permissions grid, set the Assign Resource permission to Allow
7. In the Resources section, select each project manager in the list on the
left and click the Add button to add them to the list on the right
8. Click the Save Changes button
The above steps will give each project manager permission to see his/her
fellow project managers in the Build Team from Enterprise dialog, along with
the resources he/she is permitted to see due to RBS security. I realize
this isn't the exact solution you seek, but it should help anyway.
