Project Server 2003 Newbie CAL Licensing Questions

F

Felix Dejavu

I'm a newbie to Microsoft's licensing paradigms and I've come away from
the MS website with a few questions:

1. Is the number of CALs I purchase for MS Project Server just a limit on
the number of users or concurrently logged in users I can have at a time,
or is each CAL associated with a user account? If so, can I recycle the
CAL when I remove one user and add another, or do I have to buy a new CAL
whenever I add a user?

2. Do CALs last forever or do they expire or have to be renewed?

3. My understanding is that every user who logs in via PWA (Project Web
Access) needs his/her own CAL. Thus if you had 1000 people using Project
through PWA you would need 1000 CALs. Is this really the case?

4. What are the disadvantages of allowing multiple people to share an
account/CAL?

5. What form does a CAL license come as? Is it a file or a long serial
number? Do you get them instantly online or do they send you a CD or
something?

6. How much does a MS Project Server 2003 CAL tend to cost (ignoring
volume licensing)? I had trouble getting price quotes on Microsoft's
licensing partner websites. One site said $16. Does that sound about
right?

7. This is a little OT but, I know Project Server uses SQL Server. Does
Project use up one SQL Server CAL? More than one? None?

Thanks in advance for your help MS Project Gurus!
