Project Server --> Project Portfolio (Resources)

Chas Roberts

Can anyone please assist me in getting Project Portfolio Server 2007 to
accept Resources from Project Server 2007? I want to have the same resources
in the Project Server 2007 Resource Pool to b eknown to the Project Portfolio
Server. When I do "Project Server Gateway"|"Synchronize Resource Pools", it
says it completes normally, but when I try "Named Resource Management" I
cannot see the Resources. Am I trying to synchronize wrong, or trying to
view the results of the synchronization wrong?

Please help, I am stuck...

Thanks in advance,
Chas

Hello Chas,

I had this exact issue, for a long time I tried everything under the sun to
fix it, in the end it took the assistance of one of the good people at MS
(thanks Daniel) to find what was the simple answer in my case: Language
Missmatch.

If you have the same issue as mine, make certain that the language
configured in your Portfolio Server Project Server Gateway settings is the
same as what is used in Project Server, in my case the former was English
(Australian) and the latter unbeknownst to me was English (US). Once I
changed PPS to use US english for the Sync then it worked without a hitch!

In my travels I also learnt some other things that are required to get this
to work, but primarily ensure that your PPS Resource Type's match exactly the
values in your linked Resource Type custom field, if you use multiple levels
in Project Server then ensure that you use the same code mask,
e.g. Project server:
PMO
- Project Manager
equals PPS Resouce Type of:
PMO.Project Manager (assuming default code mask)

Hope that helps you,

Martin.

Excuse me for replying to myself, but in the interests of providing more
useful and non-conflicting information on Portfolio Server I will correct my
second point there after discovering it is incorrect in testing.

Not sure where I read that you need to use the Code Mask (sure it was
someone's blog), but after testing I found my suggestion below is incorrect,
the correct option is to use only the LAST part of the Resource Type from the
lookup table, so in my example before with the PS custom field pointing to
PMO -> Project Manager, the correct Resource Type in PPS should be just
"Project Manager".

This works for me (at last!) with SP2 on both sides, so your results may
vary..

Regards,
Martin
