Project Standard 2002 and WSS

I have a question about Project and Sharepoint. This does not involve
Project Server.

We are using a document library in Windows Sharepoint Services (WSS) to hold
project documents (mpp files). When a user tries to open one of these files
using the "Edit in Microsoft Office Project" option they get an error that
says "The required application may not be installed". The user has Project
Standard 2002 installed on their computer. From a few things I've read in
the newsgroups it looks like Project Standard 2002 does not fully support
WSS but support was added in Project 2003.

Can someone confirm this for me?
