The check in the Project view menu is stuck on Resource usge view. No matter
what view I choose, it appears in the view menu that I am on Resource usage
view, even though the view I want comes up. How can I make the check appear
on the view I am on?

Short of a glitch that has been addressed by an update, I'd say your
installation of Project has a problem. I first recommend that you ensure
you have all the latest updates for whatever version of Project you are
using. You can get that from Microsoft at:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx
search: Downloads for: [Project version]

If you already know you have all updates, I would try running
Help/Detect and Repair.
