PS 2007 - Did we lose the "unsolicited" alerts feature when assigningissues in PS 2007?

Did Microsoft drop the "unsolicited email alerts" when assigning
issues in the issues list in PS 2007?

Sorry if this has already been asked/answered. Been scouring this
group and the internet quite a bit and cannot seem to find a
definitive answer.

We recently migrated from PS 2003 to PS 2007 and appear to have lost
the feature where assigning a person to an issue would result in an
email alert being sent to the assigned person even though they had not
subscribed to any alerts. An "unsolicited email alerts" feature if you
will. We came to rely heavily on this feature with our PS 2003
environment which worked this way out of the box. Alerts themselves
are still working for us but you have to subscribe to get them.

Please tell me Microsoft didn't arbitrarily drop this feature in PS
2007.Given the nature and size of our projects, asking all of our
project users to "subscribe" to alerts just isn't an option.

I believe that functionality is gone in Project Server 2007. Short of
asking people to asking people to subscribe to Alerts on Issues, the only
other way to handle it would be through custom software development. If you
want to try that approach, please post a question in the
microsoft.public.project.developer newsgroup to allow our developer friends
to give you their advice. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Dale. I suprised that Microsoft left such a
helpful feature behind when they went to 2007.
