Publish Site Question

Trying to learn Front Page 2003. I bought the Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003
Step by Step. I'm on chapter 9 exercise to publish the site. I don't know
what to put in the "Remote Web site location box." It says to type
"http://<server>/Discussion" page 242.

I'm using Verizon DSL for my server. When I open my browser it says
http://verizon.mymsn.com on the URL. I typed that in where it says <server>
but it didn't work.

Any suggestion would help.

Suggest you check out your provider and make sure they got the site set up
for you. Make sure you can ftp to it and log in. My own provider does not
enable the free web site unless I ask and the password is different (for
ftp)
For example, if I try to get onto grandecom.net I get this error message:
C:\qt>ftp ftp.grandecom.net
Connected to ftp.grandecom.net.
220-Welcome to Grande FTP server!

If you are attempting to update your Grande personal web page, you
are in the wrong place! Please connect to home.grandecom.net in
order to publish personal sites.

220 ProFTPD 1.2.4 Server (GrandeWorld FTP Server) [atlas.lsn.net]
User (ftp.grandecom.net:(none)):
========end of error message=======

If you are in explorer then use (for example my old sbcglobal account)
ftp://USERNAME%40sbcglobal.net:[email protected]/

the %40 is required if your username has an @ in it

When using FTP, it is important that the server does *not* use FrontPage
Server Extensions.

If you FTP your site from your local disk to the server and it does use
FPSE, then they will break.

But for an FTP site, it may vary for each site. Joe has to log on to
home.grandecom.net. (Is this ftp://ftp.home.grandecom.net ?)

In my case, for my FTP site, the address for viewing the site is
http://tandcl.homemail.com.au/ , but the address for updating it is
ftp://ftp.homemail.com.au/. When connecting to this address, I have to enter
Userid and Password. Although when using Windows Explorer, it is saved for
me and I don't have to re-renter it. Ditto from my FTP program - it brings
up a box to enter these details, but they are saved and all I have to do is
press Enter.

Actually, it is interesting that you can add the password after the address.

But, if your website is *not* an FTP site, then you would be better off
using the FP publish. For example for my site below (see signature), I
specify http://trevorl.mvps.org , which is exactly the same as the address
for viewing it. I then need to enter a Userid and Password
