publisher 2000 page numbers

i'm working on a directory in which i want pages numbers on some pages but not on others. i've created a blank text box to cover those pages; however, i want the first page that should have a number on it to start at 1. any suggestions as to how i can do this?

Put the page numbers in manually, or use a Mail Merge for page numbering.

Publisher 2002 and later support this function through continuous and
discontinuous sections.
