Publisher 2000 will not run

I had problems with Publisher 98 not running which we
never did solve so I installed office 2000 to see if
Publisher 2000 would function. Same problem: The flash
screen pops up and then disappears. No program.

Microsoft® Publisher 2000 Version 6.0 has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience.

Howard, hi again,
Have you tried opening Publisher in safe mode?
Publisher retains all printer information within its publications. If you can open
Publisher in safe mode, either regress or update your printer and video drivers.

Mary,
Publisher 2000 (as did Pub 98) functions in safe mode.
I uninstalled the HP940c print drivers and reinstalled
them but the problem persists.
Let me know the nest step.
Thanks for your patience with me.

When you get this error, have you looked at the details? Have you tried to open
Publisher with the printer disabled?
There are updates for Office 2000, this includes Publisher.

I deleted the printer and reinstalled it, I also tried
with the printer disconnected but the problem continued
I also followed the procedure at
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q255/5/03
..asp
After making the changes in the registry I opened one of
the office programs but the opportunity to enter a key
never came up.
I even uninstalled the Office 2000 Premium completely and
reinstalled it and the problem still occurred.

Is your video driver up to date?

Have you tried installing the service packs?

Updates for Publisher 2000:

Could the following have anything to do with it:

(329820) OFF: Latest Information on Using Microsoft Office with
the Norton Anti-Virus Microsoft Office Plug-In

John,
I checked your list and:
1. Downloaded video driver for my TOSHIBA Satellite 2805-
S402 several days agao,
2. Installed service packs SR-1 SR-2 SR-3
3. Disaabled Norton Anti-Virus
Problem persists - Publisher 2000 flash screen pops up
and then disappears.
I am willing to try anything else because Publisher is a
program that I use more than many. Willing to re-do any
of the above.
Thanks
