Publisher 2007: start up and default page size

Kathryn

Hi

I've just installed Publisher 2007. I've had a go at setting it up and must
be missing something obvious as I can't work out how to do a couple of things
that I had working in previous versions of Publisher!

1) How do I bypass the "Getting started in Publisher 2007" pane and set it
up to open with a blank page?
and
2) How do I set the default page size to be A4? I seem to have done
something but now get a custom size almost - but not quite - A4 size! (But
don't know what I did...)

I've checked Help and so on but cannot find an answer so any help here very
gratefully received.

Many thanks in anticipation

You cannot disable the Getting Started from being there when you start-up
Publisher. You can pull it off, minimize it to very small and move it to a part
of the screen where it isn't so much in the way. It will maintain this small
footprint next time you open Publisher. Of course it can be closed.

The A4 is usually determined in the printer setup as the default, do the setup
in the control panel, it will stick.

Thanks Mary

That's very helpful.

Thanks for the rather obvious solution of exiting that confusing start up
page. Trouble is when I want use page set-up - to change to Landscape or
doc. size - I'm back at all the pictures. What ever happened to the simple
dialogue box that gave you a choice of Portrait or Landscape, and a drop down
list of the page size? I've made a suggestion that this be re-instated under
a choice of "Traditional Set-up" or "Picture (whatever) Set-up", please find
this a click agree if you find this as confusing as I do.

Mary, if you know why this change was made, it would be nice to know the
thinking. I frankly flee the new set-up will much more confusing for new
users.
