Publisher 2007 - stopped working

Tom Harbin

Hi,

I help our local church with their systems. One of the employees had
installed Publisher 2007 Trial on their laptop (A Compaq running Vista Basic
with 528MB memory) and everything seemed to work fine. A month or so later I
helped them buy a volume license for Office 2007 Pro.

She installed Office Pro 2007 on her laptop and again everything seemed
fine. Last week Publisher stopped working (this is also about the time the
trial would have run out). Publisher opens fine but when she tries to open a
new file or an existing one it just shows the working icon then acts like it
never received a request to do anything. When you try again it gives a
dialog box saying Microsoft Office Publisher has stopped working. then it
closes and reopens. If you try again it fails the same way again. She had
Norton on her system which she uninstalled and replace with McAfee. She
uninstalled and re-installed Office Pro twice. I have uninstalled office and
re-installed once being sure that McAfee is disabled during the install. It
still fails.

The event viewer shows an Event ID of 1000 with mspub.exe version
12.0.6023.5000 as the faulty module. I have also seen event id 7001.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom Harbin

John,

Thank you for the reply. I went to Option/Activate Product and it tells me
the product is activated. Also I believe it should act as a viewer if it is
not activated and expired but it opens but nothing works. I can open menus
and it will bring up the template selection screen and let me navigate
through the choices but then it hangs when you try to open one. If I try to
create a new document or open an existing document it also hangs until I try
something else (or the same thing again) then it throws the message box,
asks if I want to send the info to Microsoft, which I have a number of
times, closes Publisher and reopens it.

Thanks,

Tom Harbin

That seems to be the problem but I don't know the actual fix yet. Everything
works fine if I right click MSPUB.EXE and use Run as Administrator. In
further checking I found that it would not even open help until I run as
administrator. Obviously some kind of an installation problem but beats me
what I did wrong.
