I have taken all of the exact same steps as Kim with one exception. Do
you
mean to tell me that Publisher 2007 won't open a file because I changed
my
printer? That would have to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever
heard!

Hi Mary,
The printers are the same. However, we have upgraded our server to
Windows
SBS 2008. As a result the printers live at different network
locations. This
being the case, how do I change the old Publisher file to accommodate
the
new printer addresses?
Thanks,
Kim.
Are all your publications not opening? Have you changed printers by
chance?

As stated above, I have taken ALL recommended steps, including
downloading AND installing the hotfix as Administrator, run the
diagnostics, did a repair on office, I have the file in a folder
with
full access (both network and local locations tried), turned off my
AV,
even tried running Pub from safe mode, etc. So what's next?
Thx,
Kim.
I applied the hotfix after having this problem, and it worked like
a
charm.
:
Dumb question (sorry to ask)......Did you just download the
hotfix or
did
you install it? You need to run it as an administrator.

I have experienced the same problems after installing Office
updates.
Have
followed the procedures described including running the hotfix
with
no
success. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
:
Here are some clarifications and responses to suggestions:
This is Publisher 2007 (thus the reason I applied the hotfix
after
installing SP2)
I am using Trend Micro Worry Free Business 6.0 (not Norton)
I have copied files to the desktop from the network, I have
given
full
administrative rights to the user with "Full Control" to the
files
as
well
with no success.
I will try office diagnostics next, but the fact this was a
completely
reformatted machine (due specifically to this issue) leaves me
little
hope.

Michael has Publisher 2003. What version Publisher do you
have? If
you
have
2007: Did you install the hotfix after you installed the
Service
Pack?
Have you tried Office Diagnostics in the Help menu?

Michael - I have exactly the same problem - I have taken
ALL of
the
steps
listed and still receive the same "Publisher cannot open
the
file"
error. I
can, however, open the file from Publisher 2003 but saving
with
a
different
name or in a different folder do not defeat the problem.
Is this
going to be
fixed by Microsoft some time soon?
Kim.

My client has a a computer that receives the message
"Publisher
Cannot Open
the File"
1) All other client computers on the network can open
Publisher
files just
fine from network resource (SBS 2003R2)
2) Computer with issue has been completely reformatted
and
fully
patched
with same result (Publisher Cannot Open the File).
Copying
files to
local
desktop does not resolve issue either.
3) I applied hotfix from kb972566. No luck.
4) Tried registry change of "PromptForBadFiles". No Luck
